Nesquehoning VFW named All American

For the second time in three years, a Nesquehoning veteran organization has reached an elite status.

The Nesquehoning Memorial VFW Post 8008 was recently named an All American organization. This is the second time in its 77-year existence that it has been named an All American organization.

VFW Commander Craig Strohl said that this is a big honor for the organization, noting that there are several requirements that must be met to gain this status.

Over the year, the VFW must complete community service, hold fundraisers, increase membership, host a Patriot’s Pen essay contest and the Voice of Democracy event; and present several awards for various achievements.

Strohl said that on average, the club gives over $20,000 to organizations within the Nesquehoning community, whether it be emergency responders, the school or other groups.

The Nesquehoning VFW first achieved this status on its 75th anniversary in 2021 and has worked to again be named after missing 2022.

Strohl said that the Nesquehoning VFW is the only post in the area that he is aware of to reach this status in the last four years and hopes to make this an annual goal.

The Nesquehoning VFW began in 1946, when 43 veterans applied for a charter to create an organization in Nesquehoning to serve the veterans of the community.
