The two Coaldale Borough council members who appeared to resign during last month’s meeting have returned.
Despite clearing her desk and leaving the August meeting, Claire Remington was back for Tuesday evening’s meeting. So, too, was Wayne Figner, who walked out after saying he planned on submitting his resignation paperwork the following day.
But just minutes into last night’s standing room only meeting, Remington was named president.
The reorganization was requested shortly after council President Angela Krapf began the meeting.
Councilman Francis Hutta asked to add a motion to the agenda for the purpose of reorganizing. The motion passed on a 4-2 vote with Krapf and Councilman Jacob Adamitis voting no. Councilman Ken Hankey Jr. was absent.
Hutta motioned to name Remington as council president. The motion passed with the same 4-2 vote.
Hutta’s next motion was to appoint Councilwoman Yvonne Stoffey as vice president. The vote was again split with Krapf and Adamitis in opposition.
Remington had served as council vice president.
There was no discussion about the reorganization and council carried out the borough’s business.
But toward the end of the meeting, Krapf spoke out.
“I just want to be clear. I’m genuine. But you resigned, and you resigned,” she said, motioning toward Remington and Figner.
Remington said that she didn’t resign but admitted to walking out following a disagreement.
“Yeah, but it just shows people in town that you can quit and come right back,” Adamitis said.
Instead of being a team, he said, council looked like “The Bad News Bears.”
Figner said no resignations were formally accepted. He also left the meeting following a disagreement. He said he had “a lot of support” from residents, who asked him to remain on council.
“Election Day is in November. Do whatever you want,” Remington said.
