Local Roundup: Results from Sept. 5
Northwestern’s soccer teams both won again on Tuesday, remaining undefeated with victories over Northern Lehigh.
The Tigers also received a win from its golf team.
BOYS SOCCER
Marian-Lehighton
Eight different players scored as Lehighton rolled to a 10-0 victory over visiting Marian.
Jacob Anthony led the way for the Indians with two goals and an assist.
The winners also received a goal and a helper from Corbin West and Jake Hall.
Other Lehighton goal scorers included Ever Schaeffer, Gabe Reed, Jaxson Strauss, Konner Nalesnik and Cove Schaeffer.
The Indians improved to 3-2, while the Colts fell to 0-3.
No. Lehigh-Northwestern
Jack Mauro and Isaac Frey both scored two goals to help power Northwestern to a 10-0 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.
Mauro also added an assist as the Tigers upped their overall record to 5-0 and their league mark to 3-0.
The winners received a goal and an assist from Jake van Lierop and Logan Mesics, while Caden Mertz, Caelan Stangil, Matt Johnson and Nathan Kinzel also tallied for Northwestern.
The loss dropped the Bulldogs to 1-3 overall and 0-3 in the CL.
North Schuylkill-Tamaqua
Jack Cuthie’s late second-half goal lifted North Schuylkill to a 2-1 Schuylkill League victory over Tamaqua.
After a scoreless first half, Wyatt Steigerwalt got the Blue Raiders (2-2; 1-2) on the board with the game’s first goal off an assist from Nick Barron.
Brady Walker knotted the contest for the Spartans before Cuthie’s go-ahead tally.
Keeper Kaden Onuschak made 12 saves for the Spartans, now 2-1.
Jim Thorpe-Blue Mountain
Dylan Nittle had a hat trick to lead Blue Mountain to a 5-0 Schuylkill League victory over Jim Thorpe.
Nittle scored twice in the first half as the Eagles built a 3-0 lead. He opened the scoring in the second half to complete his hat trick.
The winners also received tallies from Aiden Fogerty and Vince Desante.
Blue Mountain is now 4-1, while Thorpe dropped to 2-3.
Emmaus-Pleasant Valley
A hat trick from Marcus Puentes propelled Emmaus to a 4-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Pleasant Valley.
Ryan Kiernan finished with three assists for the Green Hornets, while Kai Mattern accounted for the team’s other goal.
Emmaus, now 4-1, had a 10-3 edge in shots on goal.
The loss dropped the Bears to 2-3.
Moravian A.-Palmerton
Moravian Academy cruised to an 8-0 Colonial League win over Palmerton.
Ben Andrew had 15 saves for the Blue Bombers, who dropped to 1-4 overall and 0-3 in the league. The Lions are now 3-0.
GIRLS SOCCER
Northwestern-No. Lehigh
Northwestern remained undefeated after posting a narrow 3-2 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.
Sophia Schaffer, Katie Brensinger and Brook Balliet all scored for the Tigers, who are 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the league.
The Bulldogs (2-1) received goals from Jayden Fischer and Katelyn Barthold, while Mikayla Gordon had an assist.
Northwestern finished with an 11-4 advantage in shots.
Palmerton-Moravian A.
Palmerton upped its record to 5-1 after shutting out Moravian Academy 3-0 in Colonial League action.
The Blue Bombers received goals from Nataly Walters, Hadlee Lake and Hannah Barry.
Ella Baumgardt, Aubrey Frable and Riley Gerhard all had assists for the winners, who are 2-1 in the league.
Pleasant Valley-Emmaus
Kamryn McWhinney had a goal and two assists to help Emmaus gain a 5-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Pleasant Valley.
Despite allowing five goals, Bears keeper Sadie Rizzo made numerous quality saves and finished the contest with 21 stops.
The Hornets finished with 31 shots to PV’s 13.
Emmaus remains undefeated at 5-0, while the Bears fell to 1-4.
FIELD HOCKEY
Pleasant Valley-Freedom
Alyssa Rudelitch’s goal helped Pleasant Valley gain a 1-1 tie with Freedom in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action.
Sara Lesnik assisted Rudelitch’s tally for the Bears (0-2-1), who received 10 saves from their goalie.
The Patriots (3-1-1) received their only goal from Karee Vandever.
GIRLS TENNIS
Whitehall-Pleasant Valley
Pleasant Valley swept doubles play to help post a 5-1 victory over Whitehall.
The Bears, now 3-5, also received straight-set singles wins from both Carly Rehrig and Ryan Rosenberg.
PV’s doubles teams dropped only four games in their three matches.

The Blue Raiders’ Emily Antonio and Jenna Fernandez both forced tiebreakers in their singles matches but dropped narrow decisions.
The winners improved to 3-3, while Tamaqua fell to 4-4.

The Blue Bombers received 88s from both Aiden Leister and Jared Grammes.
Both teams now own records of 5-6.

Brianna Snisky sparked the Olympians with 13 kills, 11 service points, six aces and four blocks, while Brooke Mitzen contributed 10 kills and two digs.
The Olympians (3-0) also received 30 assists, 13 service points and four aces from Maggy Hallihan. Olivia Calcano added 13 digs and five service points, with Jaelynn Browdy chipping in with 12 digs and four kills).
Pine Grove-Tamaqua
Pine Grove swept Tamaqua, 25-14, 25-20, and 25-21, in Schuylkill League action.
For the Blue Raiders, Leah Black had three digs and three kills, while Sarah Coccio added three digs and two kills.
The Cardinals are now 1-2, while Tamaqua is 1-3.
Palmerton-Catasauqua
Catasauqua needed a fifth set to earn a Colonial League victory over Palmerton.
The Rough Riders pulled out the contest 25-19, 14-25, 25-22, 23-25, 15-5.
Delaney Troxell led the way for Catty with 10 kills, 14 digs, eight blocks and three aces.
The Bombers fell to 1-5, while the Roughies are now 1-4.
