A Walnutport man faces child pornography charges after more than 1,700 images and videos were found on his phone, police said.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by trooper Jonathan Bailey of the Pennsylvania State Police Troop L Comp Crime Unit in the case against Kai Bachman-Haftl:
On July 18, Bailey received five Cyber tip reports from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that between February through March, Google became aware of about 118 child pornography videos, which were uploaded by a cellphone, with an Ultra Mobile/Mint telephone number and IP address.
The Google gmail account was identified as belonging to Bachman-Haftl, 19, of Moore Township, Northampton County. Court documents list his home address as being in Walnutport.
At 6 a.m. on Aug. 2, a search warrant was executed at a home in Moore Township by members of the Southeast Computer Crimes Task Force, where Bachman-Haftl was present.
A preview of Bachman-Haftl’s devices identified child pornography videos within the chat messages of Bachman-Haftl’s Telegram account, which were given to state police at Fogelsville for a forensic examination.
A total of 1,754 images and videos were identified on Bachman-Haftl’s devices.
Bachman-Haftl faces charges of child pornography, disseminating photo/film of child sex acts, and criminal use of communication facility.
He is free in lieu of $50,000, 10% cash bail, and scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Oct. 10 before District Judge Robert A. Hawke of Walnutport.
