Local roundup: Results from Aug. 30

It was a successful day for Tamaqua teams Wednesday. The Blue Raiders picked up wins in volleyball, boys soccer and tennis action.

Northwestern recorded victories in field hockey and volleyball, while Jim Thorpe’s girls soccer team also scored a win.

BOYS SOCCER

Tamaqua-Pottsville

Chase Behr’s late second(-)half goal lifted Tamaqua to a 4-3 Schuylkill League victory over Pottsville.

Behr’s goal - which turned into the game-winning score for the Blue Raiders - came off an assist from Wyatt Steigerwalt. Nick Barron and Jesse Gormley added goals in the first half for Tamaqua (1-1).

John Snyder and Brody Hess had goals for the Tide, who slip to 0-2 overall and in the league.

Jim Thorpe-Pine Grove

Tanner Kolb scored twice and Pine Grove cruised to a 5-0 Schuylkill League win over Jim Thorpe.

Quinn Bromer, Nate Frankenfield and Dane Hannevig also scored for the Cardinals (3-0), as Peyton Renninger made three saves in the shutout.

Blake Barberio stopped eight shots for the Olympians (1-2).

FIELD HOCKEY

Northwestern-Salisbury

Hannah Gober, Cara Thomas, and Taylor Langley each tallied goals to lead Northwestern to a 3-0 win over Salisbury in Colonial League play.

With the win, the Tigers upped their mark to 3-0 and have allowed just one goal this season.

The Falcons fall to 1-2-1 overall.

No. Lehigh-So.Lehigh

Reese McIntosh had a hat trick, and Piper Gluck added a pair of goals as Southern Lehigh shut out Northern Lehigh 8-0 in Colonial League action.

Southern Lehigh dominated in shots, holding a 43-3 edge over the Bulldogs, who got 21 saves from Daisy Richards.

The Spartans raised their record to 3-0, while Northern Lehigh falls to 0-3.

Palmerton-Pen Argyl

Pen Argyl edged Palmerton for a 2-1 victory in Colonial League action.

Tessa Sander scored on an assist from Makenzie Long for the Bombers, who slip to 2-2 overall and 1-2 in the league. Sarah Sabo made five saves in the loss.

GIRLS SOCCER

Jim Thorpe-Shenandoah

Makayla Eberley recorded a pair of goals to lead Jim Thorpe to a 6-0 shutout over Shenandoah.

Brinn Harwood had a goal and two assists, and the Olympians also received goals from Sarah Hartman, Yianna Klados, and Ella Cook. Maddie Hill added two assists, and Olivia Rosenberger notched two saves in the shutout.

The Olympians rebounded after a 6-0 loss to Palmerton Monday and evened their record at 1-1. Shenandoah dropped to 1-2 overall.

Pleasant Vy.-Northampton

Northampton took advantage of a solid first half to come away with a 2-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over visiting Pleasant Valley.

The Konkrete Kids took a 2-0 lead into halftime thanks to goals from Brianna Caulwell and Alayna Hahn. Emma Fry made eight saves in the win.

Sadie Rizzo finished with 13 saves for the Bears.

Pleasant Valley slips to 1-3 overall (1-1 EPC), while Northampton improves to 2-0 (2-0).

GIRLS TENNIS

Salisbury-Tamaqua

Tamaqua knocked off Salisbury for a 4-1 victory.

Emily Antonio and Jenna Fernandez posted singles’ play wins for the Blue Raiders, who improved to Tamaqua 4-2 overall.

Salisbury, which fell to 0-4 on the season, got a victory from Jaylene Vasques at No. 3 singles.

Emily Antonio (T) def. Mia Kezengwa 6-3, 6-2; Jenna Fernandez (T) def. Kacie Kaough 7-7 (6-2 tiebreaker), 6-1; Jaylene Vasques (S) def. August Stinson 6-3, 6-3.

DOUBLES

Gabby Eroh/Bradyn Brothers (T) won by forfeit; Bri Snyder/Jasmine Eberts (T) won by forfeit.

VOLLEYBALL

Pen Argyl-Northwestern

Northwestern swept Pen Argyl 3-0 in Colonial League action.

Bailey Mills had 11 kills, Kylie Nagle recorded 19 digs, and Shannon Green dished out 25 assists and four aces in the win.

With the victory, Northwestern raised its record to 2-1, while Pen Argyl stumbled to 0-2.

MMI Prep-Tamaqua

Tamaqua swept MMI Prep for a 25-12, 25-17, 25-11 for a non-league win.

Senior Sarah Coccio had four kills, one ace and one block for the Blue Raiders (1-1). Senior Lacey Beers also fired nine aces in the win.

Tamaqua also won the JV match, 2-0.

Palmerton-Southern Lehigh

Southern Lehigh topped Palmerton 25-6, 25-6, 25-6 in a Colonial League contest.

Alexis Hoyer paced the Spartans (3-0 overall) with seven aces, five kills, five assists and two digs.

Abby Stankewicz (22 assists, seven aces, one kill, one dig), Trinity Sky Hunte (eight assists, three kills) and Natalie Pristas (three kills, one dig, one ace) also helped balanced Southern Lehigh’s attack.

With the loss, the Blue Bombers fall to 0-3 on the season.
