Nesquehoning is showing support for its police department.
On Wednesday, Pam Zlock, president of the borough recreation commission, presented police Chief Michael Weaver with a check for $2,100, which was raised during the borough’s National Night Out event on Aug. 1.
Councilwoman Lois Kuba commended the volunteers who serve on the recreation commission for making a difference with the town and thanked both the commission and the police for all they do.
The recreation commission has several events planned for the upcoming months.
A basket raffle will be held Sept. 15-17 at the recreation center.
A children’s Halloween party is being planned for October; and a Christmas party is also in the works.
The commission is also interested in organizing a Christmas tree display in New Columbus park once electricity has been run through the park. The electrical project is in the works.
It was discussed that maybe the commission could talk to other municipalities that do trees in the park for the future.
