A 78-year-old Saylorsburg woman is the victim of a theft by deception case that is being investigated by state police at the Stroudsburg barracks.

Police said they were summoned at 1:03 p.m. on Aug. 23 to a property on East Terrace Drive in Hamilton Township where the victim reported she received a phone call from someone who told her a family member was arrested and needed a large sum of money in order to post bail.

Police said the victim provided the money in person to the unknown actor and then discovered the family member was never arrested.
