The West End Mission dinner, held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, is happening at 4:30 p.m. tomorrow.

Friday flicks

The Croods will be the free fourth Friday Family Fun Flicks Friday subject at St. Peter’s UMC in Saylorsburg, beginning at dusk. The rain date is Sept. 1.

Free popcorn will be available.

Attendees are advised to bring a blanket or a lawn chair for this Movie Under the Stars event.

Effort UMC pantry

The Supplemental Food Resource Center at Effort UMC will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Backpack blessing

Sunday is the day for Our Lady Queen of Peace Church’s to celebrate the Blessing of the Backpacks. That includes book bags, binders, etc.

Music guests

St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, 924 Rt. 115, Saylorsburg, will host HERITAGE, a Penn View Bible Institute Vocal quintet, during the 9 a.m. Sunday worship. All are welcome to worship and enjoy their music.

Community supper

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church offers a Community Sunday Supper. It will be held at 3 p.m. this Sunday.

PV schools open

The Pleasant Valley schools have their first day of classes on Monday. They continue through Thursday, but Friday is a day of vacation in recognition of the Labor Day holiday weekend.

Classes resume Sept. 5.

The PVI School will hold its Open House that evening from 5 to 7 p.m.

PVE will hold its Open House from 5 to 7 p.m. the next evening, also from 5 to 7 p.m.

Blood donations

The Miller Keystone Blood Center will be back at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville on Monday, beginning at noon. Platelets and double red cells will be collected until 4 p.m., whole blood until 6 p.m.

The American Legion Post 927, Gilbert, will hold its open to the public bingo games on Monday. Card sale begin at 6:30 p.m. Games being called begins at 7 p.m.

Hearing continues

The hearing held in regard to the Effort Solar proposal is slated to continue at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Polk Township Firehouse.

Eldred Parks & Rec

The August meeting of Eldred’s Park & Recreation Committee has been rescheduled for next Tuesday at 7 p.m.

CJERP meeting

The August CJERP was canceled due to the West End Fair. It has been rescheduled to 7 p.m., Sept. 28.

Harvest help

The Garden of Giving is in need of volunteers to help harvest crops now through Nov 1.

It is open from 9:30 to 12:30 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday,

WE Republicans

Due to being at the West End Fair this week, the next meeting of the West End Republican Club will be held at 7 p.m. on Sept. 26 at Cherry’s Family Restaurant in Kresgeville.

Those planning to attend the meeting and wanting dinner at Cherry’s should arrive at 6 p.m.

Appointment needed

The Ross Township Historical Society museum will not be open in August except by appointment. The museum will host an Open House on Ross Township Community Day, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sept. 16, and every second Saturday of each month thereafter at the same time.

There is no charge for admission and all are welcome to view photographs, artifacts and items specific to historical Ross Township. The museum located at 258 Anchorage Road, Saylorsburg.

Movie nights go on

Middlecreek Christian Church has decided to continue its free monthly movie nights throughout the year, with the next showing on Sept. 10 being God’s Not Dead 2. Pizza, beverages, and snacks will be provided

Kettle Creek event

A Taste of Italy is the dinner which will be served at the annual fundraising event to benefit the Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center being held at Trout Lake on Rt. 715 Sept. 21, starting at 5:30 p.m.

The Rose Schoch award, which is presented to individuals for their outstanding contributions to environmental education, will be given out at the dinner.

The deadline to purchase tickets is Aug. 31.

Rail trail extension

From the Eldred Township Administrative office comes word that the Greenways Feasibility Study, studying of the possibility of extending a rail trail from Palmerton to Kunkletown will be holding a public meeting at 6 p.m., Sept. 12, at the Lower Towamensing Recreation Center, 1770 Fireline Rd. Palmerton.

The public is urged to attend. Representatives of Barry Isett Associates, the engineering firm conducting the study will be present to respond to questions. A survey will be available at the Township offices or upon request through email in advance of the meeting.

Fusion Festival held

Middlecreek Christian Church’s annual Fusion Festival will be on the weekend of Sept. 15-17, a weekend full of musical performances, activities and games, a Friday movie night, and delicious food.

Fusion is a free event, focused on Christian fellowship and worship for the whole commonwealth. It’s a great activity for the family, as well as a great outing opportunity for Bible study clubs and youth groups.

PVEN yard sale

The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network will be holding a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sept. 23, at the PVEN Food Pantry and Clothing Closet at 2334 Route 209, Sciota.

Submissions due

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center has announced its 2024 Photo Contest and invites folks to send in photos that showcase Monroe County’s finest natural resources. Winners will receive maple syrup from the Meesing Sugarbush and a 2024 MCCD calendar.

Submissions are due Sept. 23. One grand prize winner will also be featured on the cover of the 2024 calendar.

Habitat golf

Habitat for Humanity in Monroe County has announced its 26th annual golf Tournament to benefit Monroe County’s unit of Habitat for Humanity.

It will be held at Great Bear Golf Club on Sept. 27.

Registration begins at 11:30 a.m., with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. and dinner and prizes at 6 p.m.

Registration is due by Sept. 20.

Ham dinner coming

Salem St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Kresgeville is having a ham takeout dinner on Oct. 14. Dinner includes ham, filling with gravy, carrots, applesauce, roll and choice of molasses or pineapple upside-down cake. Orders must be placed by calling 570-688-5381 no later than Oct. 1.

Looking ahead

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) 1113 in Kresgeville is hosting a 75th birthday celebration of the founding of the weight loss support group at 5:30 p.m., Oct. 18.

This organization was established in 1948 and has grown to be internationally recognized as a successful group of like-minded chapters throughout the United States and Canada, shares Linda Harpel.

The group invites you to attend the chapter at Salem-St. Paul Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, to learn more of how to achieve weight loss and sustain that weight loss through the KOPS program.
