KU Presents! starts year off with The Wallflowers

KU Presents! will have a variety of programs over the academic year, starting Wednesday, Sept. 27 with The Wallflowers.

Season tickets are available for the Performing Artists Series season, which will include seven evenings of music, dance and theater in a variety of genres, as well as the recently revived Family Series with four Sunday afternoon events.

Since its inception in 1988 as the Kutztown University Performing Artists Series in Schaeffer Auditorium, KU Presents! has been a center of cultural life, not only for the university, but for the surrounding region.

The opening performance will feature singer/songwriter Jakob Dylan, who created The Wallflowers as a roots rock band in 1989. The son of Bob Dylan and model Sara Lownds, Jakob Dylan has forged his own path as a gifted artist, not only as the lead singer and primary songwriter for the band, but as a soloist.

The Wallflowers’ breakthrough 1996 album, “Bring Down the Horse,” produced the number-one single, “One Headlight,” which won two Grammy Awards in 1998. The band has released nine albums over the years, most recently “Exit Wounds” (2021). Dylan has released three solo albums, including “Echo in the Canyon” (2019), a celebration of the Los Angeles enclave Laurel Canyon, and its 1960s-era musicians’ colony.

The Mark Morris Dance Group will perform Wednesday, Oct. 11.

Morris is one of America’s pre-eminent modern dance choreographers, who has created more than 150 influential works for his own company, founded in 1980 and based in Brooklyn, N.Y., and for other dance companies.

Morris had previously danced with Lar Lubovitch, Eliot Feld and others; his original training included ballet, flamenco and Balkan dance. He is also a conductor, and directs and choreographs operas.
