Rush Township hires company to resurface Bernard Road

Those traveling on Bernhard Road in Rush Township will soon say goodbye to dozens of potholes.

“A contractor will be doing Bernhard,” Supervisor Robert Leibensperger said following Friday’s monthly meeting.

Plans are to mill and resurface 3,750 feet of the road between Fairview Street and the Pine Creek bridge. Work could begin in as soon as three weeks.

Township engineer William McMullen said the project will cost around $161,648.

During a recent meeting, a resident complained about the condition of the road. At that time, the board said it would likely be patched until it could be overhauled.

“We decided since it was going to cost us $15,000 to $20,000 in patching that we put the money toward something that is going to be permanent,” Leibensperger said.

Township crews recently resurfaced Orchard, Bittner and Messerschmidt roads.

The meeting was rescheduled from Thursday.
