State police at the Frackville barracks arrested David Bernitsky, 43, of New Philadelphia, on assault charges after they were called to a domestic incident at 5 p.m. Aug. 11 on Valley Street in New Philadelphia.

The victim is a 39-year-old woman from New Philadelphia who arrived at the St. Luke’s Hospital, Miners Campus, Coaldale, to be treated for injuries she sustained in the incident.

Police said she told them she and Bernitsky became involved in a verbal argument after he went into a jealous rage over a job interview the woman attended.

She told police Bernitsky punched her multiple times in the face and head, causing redness and swelling, and shoved her to the couch where he continued to beat her over her entire body, causing bruised ribs and multiple areas of bruising to her back and legs.
