The Rev. William Dermott was installed recently as pastor of Assumption B.V.M. Catholic Church, Slatington, having been named by the Bishop of Allentown to succeed the Rev. Andrew Polaha, who passed away on Memorial Day.

Father Dermott had been serving as administrator of the parish since January.

Born in Hazleton, he was raised in Jim Thorpe, a son of the late William and Rita Dermott. A graduate of Jim Thorpe Area High School, he celebrated his first mass in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Jim Thorpe.
