Lanford looks to convert tennis courts

Lansford is jumping on the pickleball craze.

Borough council will be getting prices to convert Ashton Hill Park tennis courts into a pickleball courts.

The tennis courts have gone mostly unused with weeds growing up through the pavement. Some work will need to be done to bring the courts back, Council President Bruce Markovich said.

Communities throughout the region have been re-lining their tennis courts to accommodate the fast-growing sport.

Council also ratified the advertisement for the handicapped ramp project at the park. ARRO Engineering went ahead and re-advertised the project after bids came in substantially higher than expected, Markovich said.

ARRO discussed scaling back the scope of the project and re-bidding it in six months with council at the time, and this week, went ahead and advertised the project as discussed, he said.

“Hopefully, we can get them done this year,” Markovich said.
