Lunches continue

The PVEN free summer lunches, available for children ages 18 and under at the Chestnuthill Park, Pavilion 1, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday, will end Aug. 18. Must east on site. Questions: 570-992-3136.

Overeaters meeting

Household essentials

Polk Township will participate in the Monroe County Meals on Wheels’ Household Essentials Day on Aug. 19 with collected nonfood items going to the Client Needs Pantry. More information posted at https://Polktwp.org.

It’s coming soon

The West End Fair, with its many exhibits, displays and activities, runs from Aug. 20-26.

One of the first events is the Fair Vespers at the Main Stage in the Gilbert fairgrounds at 4 p.m. Sunday.

Rail trail extension

The Greenways Feasibility Study, studying to possibility of extending a rail trail from Palmerton to Kunkletown, will have a public meeting at 6 p.m. Sept. 12, at the Lower Towamensing Recreation Center, 1770 Fireline Road. Palmerton.

Representatives of Barry Isett Associates, the engineering firm conducting the study, will answer questions. A survey will be available at the township offices or upon request through email in advance of the meeting.

Flea market set

St. Peter’s UMC has announced its fall flea market. It is slated to take place on Sept. 16, at the church site’s grounds on Route 115 in Saylorsburg. The rain date is Sept. 23.

Appointment needed

The Ross Township Historical Society museum will not be open in August except by appointment. The museum will host an open house on Ross Township Community Day, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 16, and every second Saturday of each month thereafter at the same time.

Contest reminder

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center 2024 Photo Contest is underway and photos can be submitted that showcase the county’s natural resources. Winners will receive maple syrup from the Meesing Sugarbush and a 2024 MCCD calendar. Submissions are due Sept. 23. The grand prize winner will also be featured on the cover of the 2024 calendar.

Exercise class

West End seniors can participate in an exercise with YouTube at the Chestnuthill Senior Center at Zion Lutheran church in Brodheadsvillle. Call 570-242-6770.

Cancer patient volunteers are needed to drive folks to appointments. Train online. Go to www.cancer.org and search for drivers or call 1-800-227-2345.

Eldred fall clean-up

Eldred Township Fall Clean-Up, 7 a.m.-2 p.m., Sept. 29, and 8 a.m.-noon, Sept. 30. Free (except tires) to all township residents. Residents can bring all the things not suitable for disposal in regular trash, such as mattresses, old lawn furniture, gas grills etc. The township recycles metals so keep them separate.

Tires can be bought for a fee of: $5 for car tires, $10 for truck tires and $15 for large truck, such as tractor trailer tires. The next event will be in the spring.
