Lehighton man charged with assaulting girlfriend, man

A Lehighton man has been charged with assaulting his girlfriend and another man.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by police officer Jeff Frace of the Mahoning Township Police Department stated the following in the case against Ryan Nelson:

At 3:49 p.m. Monday, Frace was dispatched to a residence in the 800 block of North First Street for an assault in progress.

A witness saw Nelson, 23, throw his girlfriend into the wall of a garage outside.

The man attempted to intervene and Nelson struck him with a fist at least five times in the head and face.

The man believed his jaw was broken, and he was transported by ambulance for treatment.

A second witness said she heard Nelson’s girlfriend scream while she was inside the residence.

She ran outside and saw Nelson and his girlfriend come out of a bush outside the home.

The woman said she got Nelson’s girlfriend away from Nelson. She said Nelson told her, “I will kill anyone that takes her.”

He swung his girlfriend into the shed, and then struck the man in the face.

The woman said Nelson dragged his girlfriend down an embankment toward the woods.

Nelson’s girlfriend was located in the woods with bruising around her neck. She had a bruise on her right upper arm, which she said was from Nelson biting her.

She was transported by ambulance to St. Luke’s Carbon for treatment.

Nelson faces charges on two counts of simple assault.

Nelson is currently in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 straight bail, and scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Aug. 9 before District Judge Eric M. Schrantz of Jim Thorpe.
