A Philadelphia man was sentenced to a county prison term on Thursday in Carbon County court, and faces a more than $69,000 restitution bill.
He appeared before Judge Joseph J. Matika for sentencing after previously pleading guilty to charges.Mark A. Guldin Sr., 42, was sentenced on one count of driving under the influence to serve three to six months in the county prison.Guldin was arrested following a crash on May 26, 2012, along Route 534 on the property of Hickory Run State Park, Kidder Township, in which the person in the other vehicle suffered serious injuries.Matika said the victim testified at the plea proceeding that the results of her injuries had a tremendous impact on her life.A request by Guldin to be placed in the county's Intermediate Punishment Program was denied by Matika, noting the facts of the case.Guldin also faces a big restitution bill, totaling $69,689.24 for damages in medical expenses incurred by Houser.In addition to the jail term, Guldin was ordered to pay a fine of $1,000, have his license suspended for a year, and render 25 hours of community service when released on parole. He was granted work release privileges.He will begin the jail term on Feb. 22, at 9 a.m. Matika deferred sentencing to give Guldin time to see if he could serve the prison term in Montgomery County. Matika said that request would have to be arranged by Guldin, his attorney, and the wardens of the two prisons. If not, Guldin must report to the Carbon prison on Feb. 22.
