Off-duty Delaware County police officer shot, killed in home

GLENOLDEN, Pa. (AP) - Philadelphia-area police say an off-duty officer has died after being shot in his home in Delaware County. Police say no one has been taken into custody, but they aren't searching for a suspect.

Darby Borough police Chief Robert Smythe says one of his officers was shot at about 4:30 p.m. Saturday in his home in Darby Township. His name isn't being released pending family notification.

Darby Township Police Chief Len McDevitt Jr. says the officer was shot once in the chest. He says a woman was in the home at the time, but it's too early to say whether the shooting was a domestic incident.

McDevitt says he expects homicide charges to be filed.

He says the officer was 26 and had worked at the department part-time for four years.
