Bank gives to Lehighton 150th
The Lehighton branch of the Mauch Chunk Trust Company gave a $1,000 donation Monday morning to the Lehighton Borough 150 Celebration Committee for planning of the town's sesquicentennial in 2016.
"What they are doing for us today is really nice," said Clark Ritter, chairman of the celebration committee. "We're still waiting to hear back on some grant applications, but this is definitely one of our bigger contributions."The eight-day celebration will take place from June 25-July 2, 2016. The committee is working on a tentative schedule of events.Ritter said the committee is developing a $55,000 budget for the celebration."We're doing pretty well as far as working toward that amount," Ritter said. "We have a lot of things going on. There are 50/50 tickets available at the borough office. Some nice cash prizes will be available during the anniversary."According to Autumn Abelovsky, committee secretary, upcoming fundraising events that are being worked on are an art gala scheduled for May 17 and a historic trivia night slated for the summer of 2015. Both events will feature and promote local talent. The committee will also be developing a "Lehighton-opoly" game to promote local businesses."Any business or person who wants to contribute to the general budget for the celebration can make the check out to the Lehighton 150th Anniversary and bring it or mail it to the borough building," Ritter said on Monday. "It doesn't have to be a $1,000 donation like we got today. That is nice, but we'll take anything."
