EASTON (AP) – A Pennsylvania man will be on probation for two years and can’t own a pet in the meantime after pleading guilty to animal cruelty for body-slamming his ex-girlfriend’s dog.
The Morning Call of Allentown reported Thursday 35-year-old Angel Luis Ortiz also has to perform 100 hours of community service. That includes at least an hour a week at an animal shelter.
The six-pound terrier was euthanized July 21, the day of the attack, because of the severe injuries inflicted by the Bethlehem resident.
Court documents say he twice threw Poochie onto the floor of his home because the dog’s barking angered him. He told investigators Poochie bit him on the hand.
His public defender tells the newspaper Ortiz is remorseful and never made excuses for the act.
