Jacob Weiss statue was unveiled Sept. 25, 1916.Lehighton's first African-American resident was George Harmon. Harmon was the town shoemaker and was active in many local organizations.Third Ward School, located on North Fourth Street, was overpopulated in the 1940s; therefore, fifth- and sixth-grade classes were moved to a small building to the rear of the school. These were nicknamed the "chicken coop" classrooms.
