A New York man, currently housed in the Carbon County Correctional Facility, is being extradited to New York to face charges for aggravated harassment.
According to the affidavit filed by Nesquehoning Police Chief Sean Smith, police were notified about Muhammad Calderon Muriel's outstanding warrant in New York by a prison sergeant on the morning of June 15.Muriel had been in prison for drug-related charges for an earlier incident in the county, court papers say.Smith spoke with Muriel and asked if he knew about the arrest warrant, which stemmed from an incident in December 2013. Muriel said he knew what the warrant was for, explaining that when he picked up his son from a New York day care, he noticed a bite mark on his son's cheek. He then confronted the day care workers about the mark and they had him arrested for harassment.Muriel said he would be willing to waive extradition.
