Racers line up for rainy race day in Jim Thorpe

Racers were not deterredby dark skies and heavy rain on Saturday for the annual trek through the historical streets of Jim Thorpe.

St. Mark's 10th annual Race Street Run started on Broadway and ended at the 146-year-old church. A total of 180 peopleregistered for this year's race.The race was divided into two divisions, a 4-mile and a 15K or9-mile run.The race course began on asphalt in front of the courthouse leading the racers up to the Switchback Trail.The trail acted as the 4-mile location turnaround, but for the 15K runners it was through the woods they went before heading back to the Race Street finish line.Of the 86 people registered for the 4-mile run, the fastest female was Amanda Rone with a finish time of 28 minutes and 25seconds.The fastest male runner ended three minutes sooner, Jacob Martinez finished at 25:07.Out of 94 registered racersin the 15K, the fastest woman was Allison Finrini, finishing in one hour and six minutes. Thewinning male was Jeremy Scheid, who ended in 52:59 seconds, just 68 hundredth of a second before his brother Justin.The proceeds raised for this year's race will go to help the cost of upgrading the church bells.
