Two people were cited by Tamaqua police on Aug. 13 after an officer made a traffic stop on East Broad Street.
The officer was monitoring traffic at 8:45 a.m. when he saw a red Ford sedan pull over, drive over the curb and park on the sidewalk in the 400 block of the street.A male passenger exited the rear of the vehicle, went into a house and returned to the car two minutes later. The officer approached the Ford and spoke with the driver, Tyler Shortway, 24, of Weatherly. Allegretto said she was asleep and didn't know anything. After receiving permission from the driver and owner of the Ford, officers searched the vehicle. On the front passenger side they found three small black rubber bands and a purse. The purse contained eight wax packets marked "BAD YANG" and eight packets marked "STRIKE DEAD." The packets were wrapped with small black rubber bands. In the rear they found a 3-inch straw and a Vitamin B12 container with an empty STRIKE DEAD packet inside. The contents of the packets field tested positive for heroin.Allegretto was cited for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.Shortway was charged with driving with a suspended license.
