No tax hike planned in Lehighton

Lehighton appears poised to once again hold the line on the municipal tax rate next year.

That's after borough council at its Nov. 23 meeting adopted the proposed 2016 budget with no tax increase. If approved by council, next year's $4,350,133 spending plan would leave the tax rate in check at 7.5 mills. That would mean a homeowner with a home valued at $100,000, which would be assessed at $50,000, would again pay $375 to the borough next year in property taxes.Borough manager Nicole Beckett said final budget adoption is scheduled for Dec. 21.Residents saw no increase in their municipal taxes this year as a result of the $4.1 million general fund spending plan left the tax rate unchanged at 7.5 mills. The last time residents saw an increase in their municipal taxes was in 2014, when council approved a 1-mill increase.
