Lenten services

• The five-church cooperative Lenten services involving Monroe County West End and Carbon County’s East End churches continue tonight at Jerusalem UCC in Trachsville.

The theme for this year is: Thy Will be Done, with tonight’s focus God’s Will and My Dreams.

The preacher will be Suzanne Brooks-Cope with the Bible character being David.

The evening begins with a 6 p.m. simple soup dinner. An ecumenical choir will practice at 6:30 and the worship service begins at 7 p.m.

Host choir director chooses an easy anthem and choir members from all churches are encouraged to attend the 6:30 p.m. rehearsal and sing each week.

Church offering envelopes received will be forwarded to their respective churches. Loose offering received will go to the host church.

In case of inclement weather, check Channel 13, WSBG and/or WVPO for service cancellation information.

The host church will also place a cancellation notice on their respective answering machine if possible.

• Effort UMC continues with a Bible study with a light meal each Wednesday from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m., and a Lenten service to follow in the sanctuary at 7 p.m. The Bible study will be Max Lucado’s most recent study on the letter to the Philippians, called Anxious for Nothing: Chaotic World.

• Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Gilbert will have a Lenten evening of reflection at 6 p.m. with a light dinner followed by Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and preparing for Lent.

• Salem-St. Paul’s, Kresgeville, is part of the five-church worshipping group, as is Salem UCC, Gilbert, and St. Matthew’s UCC in Kunkletown.

• Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, has its midweek Lenten worship Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. after a 6:30 p.m. Lenten study and supper. The choir practices at 7 p.m.

Band parents

Pleasant Valley Band Parents will meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday in the high school band room.

Legion meets

Post 927 American Legion, Gilbert, will have its monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Celebrating Dr. Seuss

The Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville will celebrate Dr. Seuss with a Read Across America event on Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

This event celebrates the birthday of Dr. Seuss; similar events are held across the country. Guest readers will be reading and telling stories all day long. For more information contact the library at 570-992-7934.

At noon Saturday, Western Pocono Community Library’s Storybook Theatre will present its adaptation of “Treasure Island.” Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. in the lower level of the library. This show is free and open to all ages; donations are greatly appreciated and accepted. Storybook Theatre is a drama club for anyone in grades 7 through 12.
