The current issue of the Reader's Digest, in a story condensed from the National Civic Review by James N. Miller, tells the story of the former Carbon County Board of Commissioners for having called upon the Pennsylvania Economy League for counsel in operating the county government. The story, "How To Watchdog A Town Budget," tells how in a small town government, administered by amateurs, spending is big, taxes are rising fast, and waste is often great. The story says that in 1959, the voters of Carbon County swept the old regime out of office and replaced them with "strictly amateurs in government."
