Impacts of budget stalemate

The effects on Penn State University's agricultural programs if the Land Scrip Fund is not restored soon.

• Loss of $22 million annually of USDA capacity funds to the college.• Loss of $56 million of grant funding awarded to the college.• Loss of $13 million of county funds as part of the counties' commitment to the land-grant partnership.• Closure of all 67 county extension offices; 162 educators and program assistants, 202 staff and 372 wage payroll for program and research project staff eliminated.• Closure of three agricultural experiment stations and elimination of research projects, with 20 people losing their jobs.• Downsizing the PSU University Park personnel, resulting in loss of eight administrators, 140 department faculty, 17 extension program associates and 182 support staff.• Eliminating the 4-H and master gardener programs statewide.• Total affected: 1,108 positions, 92,340 4-H and master gardener program members and 9,556 4-H and master gardener program volunteers.
