For the past few weeks, it has been rumored that Wagner Electric Corporation planned to close its Weatherly plant. Yesterday, officials confirmed they are looking at that possibility.

A spokesman said the plant has been operating at a reduced level for some time because of the depressed automobile market.Wagner Electric is the successor to the Tung-Sol Corporation, which established the Weatherly plant in 1946. The operation employs about 250 people.Weatherly Borough Manager Beverly Knepper said the loss of the plant would be a serious blow to the community and would affect between 75 and 100 Weatherly families.
