Ex-judge jailed in 'kids-for-cash' scheme sent to Atlanta

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) - A former Pennsylvania judge serving nearly three decades in prison for his role in a scandal that became known as "kids for cash" has been transferred from a prison in South Carolina to one in Atlanta.

The (Wilkes-Barre) Citizens' Voice reports (http://bit.ly/1SVzHaZ ) that records show former Luzerne County Judge Mark Ciavarella Jr. has been transferred to the United States Penitentiary Atlanta. The medium-security prison has a minimum-security satellite camp and a detention center.Prosecutors have said Ciavarella ordered youths to detention for various relatively minor infractions to help fill beds at two for-profit juvenile detention centers.
