Legionnaires are recognized for membership in Summit Hill

Nine members of the Davis-Lawton-Yurko-Breslin-Bevich American Legion Post 316 in Summit Hill have been recognized by the National American Legion for continuous membership to that organization.

The veterans include Allen J. Schock, who was honored for 70 years of continuous membership in the Legion; the late George S. Davis, who passed away on March 5 of this year, and Raymond G. Snyder, whose 60 years of consecutive membership were acknowledged; and John P. Basiago, Robert J. Bevich, Edward Evans Jr., Stephen Figura, William D. Jones and Michael J. Kashlak, all of whom are observing their golden (50th) anniversaries as Legionnaires.

Commander W. Kevin O’Donnell of Post 316 said the national organization forwarded certificates to Post 316 under the signature of national Commander Michael D. Helm, and that Summit Hill officials delivered the awards to the nine veterans.

The practice, he said, has been in place for several years and calls attention to membership in the American Legion organization.

Meanwhile, O’Donnell said the post is making plans for the annual Summit Hill Memorial Day festivities, which includes Carbon County’s largest parade hosted by the Summit Hill Memorial Day Parade Committee, and memorial services to be held on May 27 at St. Joseph Cemetery in the White Bear section of the community, as well as in Ludlow Park on Memorial Day, May 28, before the start of the parade, both hosted by Post 316.

He said town residents are asked to show public support of America by displaying the red, white and blue.

Flags and other related items are available through the parade committee at Breslin’s Hilltop News, 46 W. Ludlow St., Summit Hill.
