A young boy drowned at about 3 p.m. Saturday in the Crystal Pool at Knoebels Amusement Resort in Elysburg.
According to a park Facebook post, lifeguards and first aid responders administered emergency care until the boy was transported to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, where he was pronounced dead.
After the incident, the park's website was taken down. By mid-evening the site was up again but in abbreviated form with a notice of the child's death.
The brief release informed the public that "a tragedy had occurred" when a "young boy was found unresponsive by a lifeguard."
It continued: "The Knoebel family and team members had been hoping and praying for the best possible outcome, but are saddened to have learned from local authorities that the young boy has passed away. Please join us in keeping the boy's family in your prayers."
According to Karl Beagle of the Knoebels management team, the exact age of the boy is not known at this time.
"Our hearts are heavy," he said, "that such an event could have taken place at a place where children are supposed to be having fun."
Beagle said that at the time of the incident, the lifeguard cleared the pool, and swimmers exited in an orderly fashion.
The park did not close, and swimmers were later allowed to return to the pool, he said. According to Beagle, members of the child's family were present at the time of the incident.
Locust Township police didnot release any additional information, explaining the incident was under investigation.
