Black Diamond Writers' Network slates book illustration presentation

Members of the Black Diamond Writers' Network are holding a free illustration presentation tomorrow morning at the Tamaqua Public Library during their monthly meeting. Guest speaker will be Pat Achilles, a professional illustrator and cartoonist. Achilles will talk about her experiences with book illustrating and will offer tips on working with an illustrator to make your book look great and marketable. She will also go over ways to trim costs as well as promotional and networking ideas. Achilles worked as an art director for Presbyterian Publishing House before becoming a freelance illustrator for businesses, children's books and advertising agencies. Her recent book illustrations include those for Mommy's High Heel Shoes by Kristie Finnan; The Adventures of the Poodle Posse by Chrysa Smith and The Lion, the Ostrich and the Squirrel for the Maasai Cultural Exchange Project. The Doylestown resident draws a weekly cartoon for various online publications and also offers her own line of humorous greeting cards. More information about Achilles can be viewed online via

In addition, the program will be followed by a brief critique session for those interested in sharing some of their work or a roundtable discussion. The meeting is free and open to the public.
