When Weatherly residents celebrated the borough's 150th anniversary in 2013, they started a new tradition in the Weatherly Festival.
Now in its fourth year, the festival is a great attraction for families and people of all ages. The 2016 edition continues today and Saturday. The festival grounds will be open from 5-9 tonight, and from 1-9 p.m. Saturday. The festival, which is located in Eurana Park near Third Street, has a variety of food stands set up by local churches and groups, like many local festivals and fairs. But what makes Weatherly's vendors unique is that there are zero duplicate menu items among them."It makes for a lot of variety, and makes it more appealing. You're not going to find six hot dog stands," festival organizer Mike Bellizia said. The Weatherly Festival is handicap accessible - the midways are paved and drop-off is available just outside the front of the festival. It also features family fun at a low price. On Saturday, there will be three large bounce houses, slides and obstacle courses.Trips through the bounce house cost just 25 cents - something you won't see at many fairs these days.Friday night, the National Guard will be on hand with their rock climbing wall."A child couldn't use $5 worth of tickets if they tried," Bellizia said. There's plenty of entertainment for adults as well. The festival will kick off with "North of 40" playing southern and classic rock hits. Two bands will play Saturday afternoon. And a beer tent will be set up inside the roller rink. The Weatherly Area High School Band alumni will also be having a reunion performance at 4 p.m. Saturday.
