Service hours
Any teenagers who needs volunteer/service hours? The Palmerton swim team could use help from 4-9 p.m. on July 18. Ask at the pool office or call 610-826-5357 for information or visit on Facebook at palmertonswimteam.
Road work
Starting June 28, UGI Central Penn Gas will begin a pipeline project on the western end of Mauch Chunk Road. Local traffic will have access as far as 1532 Mauch Chunk Road.
Through traffic to Bowmanstown will be closed during daylight hours. No overnight closures are expected. The borough website will update any changes. It will probably be best to plan a route around this area. Construction is expected to last five to six weeks.
July meeting
The July meeting of Compassionate Friends will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at 501 Delaware Ave., Palmerton (Ambulance Building). Compassionate Friend is a support group supporting families after the death of a child, grandchild or sibling.
Palmerton VFW
The Palmerton Memorial Post 7134 will meet at 7 p.m. Monday. The meeting will take place at the VFW Post, 2020 Forest Inn Road, Palmerton. The group welcome veterans to join them. They meet the second Monday of each month.
Class of 1955
Palmerton Class of 1955 will meet for lunch at the Blue Mountain Restaurant, 1439 Blue Mountain Drive at 12:30 p.m. July 18. Call Dorothy at 610-826-4751.
Holy Trinity news
Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton will hold worship services at 10:15 a.m. Sunday. Children’s special involvement is included in the worship.
The finance committee will meet at 10:30 a.m. July 11. A council meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. July 15.
Park concert
On Sunday, the Large Flowerheads will be performing in the bandstand in the Palmerton Borough Park at from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy ’60s oldies music. This concert is sponsored by First Northern Band. In case of bad weather the concerts will be canceled with no rain date. No alcohol or smoking is permitted in the Borough Park.
Free barbecue
A free community chicken barbecue will be held from 4-7 p.m. July 14 in the grove at Jerusalem United Church of Christ, 545 Church Drive, Palmerton (Trachsville). Music by “God’s House Band.” Bring the whole family and lawn chairs if desired. Enjoy an evening of good food and fellowship. Menu also includes potatoes, pickled cabbage, dessert and beverages. Community meal
A free community meal will be served from 5-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 891 Columbia Ave., Palmerton. Come enjoy a free meal and fellowship.
