January 10, 1998 — Panther Valley’s Joel Hunsicker earns a 13-7 decision over Jamie Carl of Shamokin to capture the 112-pound championship at the Schuylkill League Wrestling Championships. In a rematch of the previous year’s 103-pound finals which Hunsicker also won, the PV wrestler uses a pair of takedowns and three nearfall points over the final two periods to offset an early deficit. The Panthers also receive a runner-up finish from Paul Skodacek at 152 pounds, while Tamaqua’s Jeremy Benza also captures a silver medal at 135.
