Fireman Apprentice Paul A. Laub Jr., U.S. Navy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul A. Laub of Lehighton, participated in the rescue of 37 Hong Kong Chinese sailors from a grounded Liberian freighter while serving in the Western Pacific aboard the attack aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea. A foot-high silver trophy was presented the captain and crew of the Coral Sea on behalf of the master and crew of the "Loyal Fortunes," wich ran aground on the Pratas Reef 170 miles south of Hong Kong.
