Late Friday afternoon, Masters Roofing workers Francisco Hernandez, top, and Hermane Luna, both of Freeland, reinstall a restored gold spire atop the roof at the 1890s Fitzpatrick Victorian House, 242 W. Broad St., in the Tamaqua National Historic District. Not shown are others working from a position inside the dome. According to a document discovered in the tower, the ornate metalwork was handcrafted by E. R. Reeser, early Tamaqua tinsmith and owner of a steam heating operation, who installed the finial on October 29, 1902. In addition to the restored spire, the building's roof is being replaced and returned to its original red color.
