Senior center

The menu at the Panther Valley Senior Center for Jan. 13-17 is:

Monday: Beef stew with potatoes and peas, roll, fruit salad or deli club sandwich

Tuesday: Glazed turkey, sweet potatoes, Brussels sprouts, baked apples or salad with chicken

Wednesday: Vegetable lasagna, Italian green beans, cauliflower, peaches or beef and spinach sandwich

Thursday: Ham and potato soup, cheeseburger, coleslaw, melon

Friday: Chicken Francaise, parsley potatoes, broccoli, rice pudding or beef and cheddar sandwich

The Panther Valley Senior Center has announced upcoming events for Jan. 13-17.

Sunshine Meeting on Jan. 13 at 10:15 a.m. followed by Trivia at 11 a.m.; Birthday Bingo on Jan. 14 at 10:45 a.m.; Penny Game on Jan. 15 at 11 a.m.; Your Choice of Games on Jan. 16 at 10 a.m.; Cards on Jan. 17 at 10 a.m.

Nesquehoning

Historical society

The Nesquehoning Historical Society will be hosting a combination workday/open house from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. All community members are invited to attend.

Visitors will have the opportunity to browse through the museum collection and to ask questions about the displays.

For those who have a desire to join in with the behind-the-scenes work, light maintenance jobs will also be available. Snacks and beverages will be provided.

The mission of the Nesquehoning Historical Society is to preserve and share the memories of all those who have called Nesquehoning their home. The society hosts regular monthly meetings and special events and lectures.

The regular monthly meeting of the society will be held at 6 p.m. on Jan. 28. The agenda of this month’s meeting will be focused on business questions and event planning for the new year.

The Nesquehoning Historical Society is located in the former Nesquehoning Baptist Church at 157 W. Railroad St.

Meed’s Memorial

Meed’s Memorial United Methodist Church, 126 W. Catawissa St., has announced the following schedule at the church.

Sunday services will be held at 11 a.m. nursery and children’s Sunday school are available during the service.

The church also hosts a clothing ministry from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays.

The church’s monthly free community dinner will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 29.

Hometown Heroes banners

The Nesquehoning UVO and the Nesquehoning Historical Society is accepting applications for the 2020 Hometown Heroes banner program.

Applications may be picked up at the Nesquehoning VFW, 300 E. Center St., and are due no later than Feb. 1.
