The Cressona Band has canceled its Aug. 2 concert at Tamaqua’s East End Park.
Band spokeswoman Caroline Tucci said trees fell on the park’s concession stand and resulted in the cancellation.
The band cannot reschedule the concert because many members are returning to college or have other commitments.
“It’s a shame,” Tucci said.
The nonprofit group is comprised of members of all ages from Schuylkill County and beyond.
Despite the cancellation, fundraisers for the band will be held Aug. 3 at The Wheel Restaurant, 125 E. Broad St., Tamaqua.
A portion of the proceeds from those who dine in or take out between 10:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. will benefit the band. TRES Restaurant, 201 W. Market St., Pottsville will also participate from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Reservations are recommended for dining in. For more information, call 570-622-8784.
Tucci said the band hall’s air conditioning unit recently broke and funds will help replace it and upgrade the electrical system. The band also needs to have large trees around its headquarters maintained.
