Lieutenant Commander Anthony D. Konecny, son of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony P. Konecny of Hometown, was recently awarded the Navy Commendation Medal of meritorious service while serving as a navigator on the USS Henry M. Jackson from August, 1989, to May, 1992.

The citation, in part, states, “As navigator, Lieutenant Commander Konecny’s thorough training of the ship’s piloting party, meticulous attention to detail, confident manned and skillful piloting of the ship for over 100 miles in zero visibility strongly contributed to the ship’s safe passage, and being evaluated as ‘excellent’ in the area of navigation during a recent tactical readiness evaluation.”
