Second recycling bin on its way to W. Penn

A second bin is expected to be added to West Penn Township’s recycling program by week’s end.

Board Chairman Tony Prudenti said at Monday’s board of supervisors meeting that the township has hired Mark T. Boyle Welding & Industrial Sandblasting to get a new recycling bin.

Prudenti said the bin should be finished by the end of the week.

“We’re real close,” Prudenti said. “I would say within two weeks.”

In May 2022, Supervisor Tim Houser said there’s been a constant concern that the recycling bin isn’t enough, and that there would be interest in a second dumpster.

Also at that time, Assistant Fire Chief Connor Evans asked if the township’s road crew would be willing to mow the grass at the fire station.

Evans said he would be in favor of a second bin, but added there are a few things that hadn’t been completed yet, such as cameras and more lighting for the nighttime hours.

Houser said that while the recyclables are hauled away for free, it’s still costing the township money.

Prudenti said he would like to see someone from the fire company attend every township meeting.

The board previously agreed to spend up to $1,000 for a light and some cameras at the fire station.
