The Carbon Monarchs and Northern Valley both suffered setbacks on Wednesday as the Lehigh Valley Legion Baseball League kicked off its double-elimination postseason tournament.
LV LEGION
Carbon Monarchs-So. Parkland
Carbon Monarch kept pace with South Parkland in the early going, but a late surge helped the hosts pull away for a 9-1 win in LV Legion action.
The Monarchs held a 2-0 lead for three innings thanks to Jack Edwards’ RBI-double in the second inning.
Edwards and Aiden Rarick led the way for the locals, as both were the lone multiple hitters. Edwards recorded a single, double and an RBI, while Rarick finished with two singles.
Xander Provence sparked South Parkland with two singles, a double and three runs scored. Teammate John Friday had two singles and three RBIs.

Northern Valley-Salisbury
In a contest that needed eight innings to decide, it was Dominic Gracia’s RBI-single that lifted Salisbury to a 6-5 victory over Northern Valley.
Trailing 4-0 after five innings, the Chargers rallied for five runs in the sixth inning to take the lead. The Falcons tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Nick Buskirk got things started with a single and then later scored by stealing home. Robert Croneberger (RBI-single), Austin Eisenhard (two-run single) and Cole Hausman (RBI-single) all played a key role in the explosive inning.
Nick Buskirk was the lone multiple hitter for the locals, as he recorded two singles and a run scored.
Matt Nunez led the way for Salisbury, as he posted a single, double, a run scored, two walks and an RBI.

BLUE MTN. LEAGUE
Roseto-Berlinsville
The Berlinsville Braves erupted for a 17-5 win over the Roseto Bandits in six innings in Blue Mountain League action.
Conor Howland went 4-for-5 with a triple, five RBIs and two runs scored for the Braves (9-10). Shane Fillman (two runs scored, stolen base), Austin Mueller (three runs scored, two stolen bases) and Luke Spencer (two doubles, two runs scored, stolen base) each had a pair of hits and drove in two runs in the win. Ben Gagnon also had a hit and two RBIs, while Luke Netznik tossed a complete game on the mound, allowing just one earned run.
Chad Stofflet had a double with three RBIs for the Bandits (1-17).

Southern Lehigh Blue ran away with a 12-2 win over Palmerton in LV Connie Mack action.
SL Blue’s Parker Grady was the game’s lone multiple hitter, as he posted two singles and an RBI.
Teammate Jack Pavis chipped in with a double, a run scored and two RBIs.
Shane George recorded a single and a run scored for Palmerton, while Connor Buck added a single and an RBI.
Teammate Christian Ortiz recorded the lone other hit with a single.
