Towamensing and Franklin Township both captured Little League championships.
Towamensing won the District 18 10-12-year-old softball title, while Franklin took the 8-10-year-old South Division baseball title.
DISTRICT 18 SOFTBALL
Towamensing-Anthracite
Towamensing recently captured the District 18 10-12-Year-Old championship, winning two games Sunday against Anthracite.
With the score tied at 6-6 heading to the sixth inning, the Towamensing All-Stars took the lead en route to a 9-6 victory.
Dublyn Getch had two RBIs for Towamensing. Olivia Kalman went 4-for-4 at the plate, while Madelyn Binder and Violet Scott both had multiple hits. Alex Silfies led the team with two stolen bases as the team finished with eight.
Olivia Kalman pitched four innings with six strikeouts and no walks. Lexi Gulla closed it out with two strikeouts.
Isabella D. had a home run in the first inning for Anthracite, which scattered eight hits in the game. Danika B., Cadence and Jovie B. all collected multiple hits for Anthracite, which stole seven bases, for which Cadence led the way with three.
Paige Goida pitched for Anthracite and struck out 11 batters.
In the first game, an elimination contest, Towamensing prevailed 7-5 earlier in the day.
Cheyenne Rampulla had a single, which led to three runs scoring in the win. Madelyn Binder came up clutch with two hits, allowing four runs to score. The Towamensing All-Stars played error-free ball in the field.
Lexi Gulla started and pitched four innings, striking out eight while allowing one walk for Towamensing. Olivia Kalman came on in relief and recorded four strikeouts.
Sadie Mae, Danika B., and Brianna B. each collected multiple hits for Anthracite. Four players stole at least two bases, with Sadie Mae leading the way with four.
Paige Goida had five strikeouts for Anthracite.
Towamensing advances to Sectionals with its first game set for Wednesday against Warrington at Pocono Mountain East.
D-18 LITTLE LEAGUE
8-10 TOURNAMENT
Tamaqua-Franklin Twp.
Franklin Township captured the South Division title with a 2-1 win in seven innings over Tamaqua on Monday.
D. Kuhns had a triple for Franklin Township. M. Meek (single, a run scored) and M. Neff (single, RBI) each came up big in the win.
B. Schultz finished with a single and a double for Tamaqua.

Franklin Twp.-Valley East
Franklin Township advanced in the loser’s bracket final with a 1-0 victory over Valley East on Tuesday.
Franklin’s Jake Albert scored the lone run of the game in the third inning on a Roman White RBI-single.
B. Mriss went the distance for FT, as he struck out four, walked none and only surrendered one hit to earn the win on the mound.
B. Atwood recorded a double in the win, while E. Laible, O. Moyer, C. Spotts, K. Ahner and J. Albert all recorded singles.
Valley East’s Jayson R. had the team’s only hit with a single.

NORCO LEGION
East Stroudsburg-Birches
The Birches opened their best-of-three NORCO Legion playoff series against East Stroudsburg with a 13-3 win in five innings on Monday.
Nate Loch had three hits for the Birches, slashing two triples and a double. Ben Mostosky pitched four shutout innings, scattering four hits. The Birches took advantage of eight walks in the contest.
Kevin Dillon had a double and three RBIs for East Stroudsburg.
Game 2 is tonight at East Stroudsburg at 5:30 p.m. The second round of the playoffs begin Friday.

Stroudsburg-Palmerton
Stroudsburg rolled to a 14-3 victory over Palmerton in LV Senior Connie Mack action.
Doneham paced Stroudsburg with two singles, a run scored and three RBIs, while Gavin Bunn followed with two singles, two runs scored and an RBI.
Brady Reph led the way offensively for Palmerton, and also recorded a walk, a run scored and an RBI. Ethan Balanca and Austin Balanca both added a single and a run scored.
