Local roundup: Results from July 1 & 2

Tamaqua posted a win in the District 18 8-10-Year-Old Little League Tournament Sunday, while Towamensing recorded a victory in the 9-11 bracket.

8-10 TOURNAMENT

Tamaqua-Franklin

Tamaqua blanked Franklin Township 3-0, as two pitchers combined to throw a one-hit shutout.

Abram Graver was on the hill for Tamaqua. He allowed no hits and no runs over three innings, striking out four and walking one. Brady Bartczak recorded a strikeout to finish off the game.

Jakson Perez (triple, two RBIs), Kroy Tirpak, Evan Shannon, Graver, and Blaze Messerschmidt (triple) each collected one hit to lead Tamaqua, which didn’t commit any errors.

Dean K. had the lone hit for Franklin with a single in the sixth inning. Myles M. lasted five innings on the mound for Franklin, allowing five hits and three runs while striking out six. Jake K. threw one inning of relief.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Tamaqua pitchers struck out eight, while Franklin Township pitchers sat down seven.

The win forces a rematch of the two teams Monday at 6 p.m. at Lansford, with Tamaqua handing Franklin its first loss.

9-11 TOURNAMENT

Valley East-Towamensing

Towamensing turned back Valley East for a 7-4 win.

Towamensing notched five runs in the third inning. Dillon Welsh and Derek Thomas all drove in runs in the frame. Welsh, who homered in the third, allowed two hits and one run over five innings, striking out five.

Brody Mertz and Bryce Baumgardt each had a hit for Towamensing, while Zack Zelinsky stole three bases. Towamensing finsihed with seven stolen bases.

Towamensing got on the board in the first inning when Mertz grounded out, scoring one run, and added a run in the second inning.

Chase Y. led Valley East with two hits in three at bats.

LV LEGION

Northern Vy.-North Parkland

North Parkland edged Northern Valley for a 3-1 win in LV Legion action.

Owen Ondrejca led the way for South Parkland, as he finished with a single, a run scored and an RBI. Matt Razzis (double, run scored), Tyler McNicholas (single, run scored) and Noah Trager (single) all contributed in the win.

The Chargers took a 1-0 lead in the opening inning, as Andrew Diehl, who reached on a fielder’s choice, scored on a Shaun O’Donnell fielder’s choice RBI.

That was all the Chargers could afford, and the hosts put together a three-run inning in the fourth to go ahead.

O’Donnell went the distance on the mound for the locals, and kept them within reach, as he recorded five strikeouts, two walks and only surrendered four hits in the setback pitching effort.

Diehl and Trey Sterling accounted for both of the Chargers hits.

Schuylkill Vy.-Krajcirik’s

Krajcirik’s Automotive took an early lead, but Schuylkill Valley stole the momentum and pulled away for a 11-6 Schuylkill Teener League victory Saturday.

Jacob Filiac paced Schuylkill Valley, as he recorded a double, two singles, a run scored and four RBIs. Grady Leskin (three singles, two runs scored) and JuJu Bainbridge (single, double, three runs scored, two RBIs) both added multiple hits.

Gavin Yuricheck led the way for Krajcirik’s Automotive, as he recorded two extras base hits – a double and a home run. Chase Krynock (two singles, a run scored), and Danny Wehr (single, double, two runs scored, RBI) both added multiple hits.
