Church picnic

Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran is holding its church family picnic tomorrow, beginning at 6 p.m.

Hot dogs and drinks will be provided, but families are welcome to bring a side dish or dessert as well as a lawn chair or blanket for outdoor worship.

All will be inside if it rains.

PVSD Board meets

The next Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will take place tomorrow at 7 p.m., a change from June 22.

Museum open

The Ross Township Historical Society museum will be open for visitors from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday.

The museum is located in the Ross Township Municipal Hall Annex, 258 Anchorage Rd., Saylorsburg. Look for the large “OPEN” flag.

Featured will be RTHS member Marsha Beers, a retired Pleasant Valley High School German teacher. She will be available to speak German with those wishing to converse in German and to translate letters, family mementos, etc. written in German either that day, or at a future time.

Beers also volunteers as a translator of written documents for the Moravian Archives and can discuss her work there and the Archives.

All are welcome; there is no charge for admission.

The museum will be closed on the first Saturday in August, but can be opened for individuals by appointment during that month.

Pastor welcomed

St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, will welcome Pastor Elisandra Garcia as its congregational Shepherd beginning Sunday.

Pastor Garcia will lead worship in Saylorsburg while she concurrently serves First UMC in Bangor.

St. Peter’s worship service begins at 9 a.m. Pastor Eli brings with her 15 years of service as a local pastor. Her strengths lie in preaching, teaching & multi-generational congregational development.

The church extends its invitation to come experience what God has planned for the church family.

Worship is followed by a Coffee Fellowship on the second & fourth Sunday. St. Peter’s is located at 924 Rt. 115, in Saylorsburg.

Independence fest

Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church will hold its annual Independence celebration at 6 p.m. Sunday.

Sign-ups for members are requested to let the church planners know how many will be attending and what dishes are being brought.

Attendees can help set up, serve and take down. There will be water baptisms during the celebration. Those wishing to be baptized should contact the church.

Monday bingo

The community is invited to the Legion’s hosting of playing bingo at the Post home in Gilbert. Card sales begin at 6:30 p.m.; calling begins at 7 p.m.

Legion revised date

Due to Tuesday being the 4th of July, the American Legion Post 927 will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The meeting is open to all “A” members.

Garden help

The Garden of Giving needs help in the garden every Tuesday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Groups such as employee day volunteers, youth groups, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, church groups and adults who would enjoy helping their neighbors by growing healthy vegetables are welcome to come by.

The first supervisors meeting for July at Chestnuthill Township is canceled for July 4.

Missing steeple

Zion Lutheran Church hosts a temporary roof with a cross as the steeple and bell tower formerly in place have been damaged due to the passing years and weathering.

The church is currently working with a structural engineer on restoration plans. Donations are greatly appreciated and being accepted toward the project.

Voucher distribution

A reminder that the Farmer Market Coupon program is underway through Sept. 30. Eligible recipients will receive a total of $50 (five $10 coupons) more than double last year’s amount. Household incomes have also been increased.

Free movie night

Middlecreek Christian Church will host a free monthly movie night at 5 p.m. July 9.

Pizza, refreshments, sides, salad, and desserts will also be provided. Attendees will be watching God’s Not Dead. Everyone is welcome.

This event is a great opportunity to invite family and friends for a fun and to have fellowship.
