Carbon County President Judge Roger N. Nanovic has found a Schuylkill County man guilty of sexually assaulting a child.
Mark Andrew Mumich, 44, of Zion Grove, was convicted of felony indecent assault of a person less than 13; corruption of minors; indecent exposure; indecent assault forcible compulsion; indecent assault without consent; and indecent assault person less than 16 after a bench trial on June 16.
A bench trial is when a judge, rather than a jury, determines the outcome.
Judge Nanovic expects to sentence Mumich at 9 a.m. Sept. 18. He remains free on $50,000 percentage bail.
Nesquehoning Police Officer Timothy R. Wuttke filed the charges against Mumich on Feb. 11, 2020 after an investigation concluded he committed the crimes in January 2007.
According to court documents, on Sept. 26, 2019, a woman called the police station to say her then 17-year old daughter wanted to talk with police about the matter.
She had talked with police in January 2010, and an investigation was conducted, but no deposition occurred.
On Oct. 4, 2019, Wuttke met with the girl, who told him the assaults began in 2007, when she was 5 years old and moved with her family to Nesquehoning, until 2010, when she reported the crimes.
Mumich allegedly assaulted the girl on a daily basis, according to the documents.
Mumich was arraigned on March 3, 2020.
The bench trial was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Brian B. Gazo. Mumich was represented by Public Defender Paul J. Levy.
