Two state troopers shot in Juniata County

Two Pennsylvania State Police Troopers were shot today in Juniata County. One trooper succumbed to his injuries and the second was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

A man engaged troopers in Mifflintown around 12:45 p.m. and shot one trooper, who was seriously injured and transported to a local hospital.

After a search, the shooter was located in the area of Swamp Road and Baumgardner Drive in Walker Township, Juniata County shortly before 3 p.m. Troopers exchanged gunfire with him.

In this exchange, the shooter and a trooper were both shot and killed.

The public is asked to avoid the area, as the scene remains active. There is no threat to the public and the incident in contained.

Gov. Josh Shapiro and Pennsylvania State Police Colonel Christopher Paris are at the hospital where the wounded trooper was taken.

The names of the male subject and the involved troopers will be released at a later time.

Fraternal Order of Police Pennsylvania State Lodge President Joseph Regan today issued the following statement regarding the shooting of two Pennsylvania State Troopers, one fatally.

“We are devastated to have not one but two Pennsylvania State Troopers shot today…one of them making the ultimate sacrifice. Bravery and honor best describe these Troopers, and we will hold their heroic actions in our hearts and minds forever. The Pennsylvania FOP sends its heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the fallen Trooper. As we grieve, we send our strength and prayers to the injured Trooper.”
