More than 100 people attended a meeting at the New Columbus Fire Company hall, where parishioners of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Nesquehoning, vowed to fight the closing of their church by the Allentown Diocese.

Organizer Joe Steber said the most pressing demand of the rally attendees was to meet with Bishop Edward Cullen to appeal their case.

Committee members named James Nardozzi and Lynn Roman as treasurers of a bank account that will be sustained through donations and fundraisers. Other committee members involved in the planning were Joe Fauzio and Danny Farole.
