Jim Thorpe Area Sports Hall of Fame announces 2023 class

The Jim Thorpe Area Sports Hall of Fame will induct its 31st annual class during a banquet at Jim Thorpe Area High School on Saturday, Aug. 26. The class of 2023 will feature six individuals and one team.

The banquet is open to the public and tickets are now on sale. For tickets, contact Craig Zurn at 570-325-3631 or 570-325-3855. Personalized advertisements for the banquet program can be purchased for $25, $50 and $100. To purchase an advertisement contact Zurn or Jack Kmetz (570-325-4923).

Complete resumes for all inductees will run on Saturdays in July and early August preceding the banquet.

The following are members of the Jim Thorpe Area Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2023:

• Patrick Duvigneaud

- Duvigneaud is a 2013 graduate of JTAHS and a 2019 graduate of East Stroudsburg University. Duvigneaud was a standout quarterback during his playing days at Jim Thorpe, earning Pennsylvania All-State first team honors during his senior year.

• Kevan Gentile

- Gentile is a 2016 graduate of JTAHS who starred as a wrestler during his high school days. The 106-pounder became Jim Thorpe’s first and only PIAA State Wrestling Champion in 2016. Gentile finished his career with an exceptional 142-25 record, including a 42-1 mark during his senior season.

• Joseph Eichhorn Jr.

- Eichhorn Jr. is a former resident of East Mauch Chunk before moving to the Lansdale area right before attending high school. He graduated from Lansdale Catholic in 1967, and then went on to Temple University. Eichhorn Jr. made a name for himself in broadcasting where he worked at multiple horse racing tracks, while also announcing numerous sports at both Villanova University and University of Pennsylvania.

• Jim Kroculick

- Kroculick graduated from JTAHS in 1957 and went on to graduate from Kings College with a BS in Science. He earned seven varsity letters playing football, basketball and baseball at Jim Thorpe. In 1965, Kroculick returned to Jim Thorpe and served as head baseball coach, assistant football coach and volunteer wrestling coach.

• Irene Sebelin-Serignese

- Irene Sebelin-Serignese graduated from East Mauch Chunk High School in 1953 and was an accomplished gymnast. In 1951, Sebelin-Serignese petitioned the PIAA and District 11 to compete in the exhibitionist category at the annual District 11 gymnastics meet. She was granted permission and became the first woman to perform on the parallel bars and flying rings as an exhibitionist in the annual district meet.

• Jack Steber

- Steber served as the Jim Thorpe head wrestling coach from 1970-77 and later returned as an assistant coach to aid Keith Pry when he served as head coach of the program. Steber also initiated the annual Jim Thorpe Christmas Wrestling Tournament, which is still held to this day.

• 2013 Jim Thorpe boys cross country team

– The 2013 Jim Thorpe boys cross country team was compromised of Christian Fields, Zachary Nace, Jonathan Condly, Jacob Saxon, Jian Gentile, Dillan Johnson, Nathaniel Fields and Ben Saxon. The coaches were Marie Rosahac and Drew Benyo. The team finished with an 11-0 regular season record and became the first in JTAHS history to win a Schuylkill League Division 1 title.
