Hometown resident's recipe voted No. 1

The votes have been counted and a local finalist in Turkey Hill's dessert contest is the top banana.

Madelyn "Maddie" Dolinsky, 17, Hometown, captured first place in the chain's dessert recipe contest and will receive a year's supply of ice cream, as announced Wednesday by the regional franchise."It wasn't easy for us to choose the four finalists who would face off in this year's All Natural Recipe Contest, and it probably wasn't easy for you to choose which one would get your winning vote. But more than 1,600 votes were cast, and the winner is Madelyn D. of Tamaqua, Pa.," announced the Turkey Hill website Wednesday.Dolinsky, a senior at Tamaqua Area High School, was stunned when she learned the news and credited her legion of supporters from the Tamaqua area and her school."It feels pretty special. I'm a huge ice cream fan, especially Turkey Hill's ice cream. I had so much support from school, parents, friends and my parents' friends at work."Her entry was a heavenly treat named the Nutty Chocolate Ice Cream Banana Sandwich.Dolinsky borrowed from the concept of s'mores, but tailor-made her creation into something she felt her dad would enjoy."I think my recipe won because I kept it to mostly all-natural ingredients that's easy to make."She intends to enjoy the harvest of frozen winnings."I will definitely eat it all, and I am going to celebrate by having some of my friends up to eat ice cream in a few weeks. It's going to be so much fun!"Dolinsky is the daughter of Richard and Michelle Dolinsky. She hopes to attend Wilkes University in the fall.
